Dutch is our official language. English is widely spoken, while local people prefer Sranan Tongo and their own ethnic languages such as Sarnami (a Surinamese variation of Hindi), Javanese, Chinese, Portuguese, the Lebanese version of Arabic, and several different Amerindian and Maroon languages.
